I knew Mick would understand what we were looking for visually as he had designed Mike’s tour logs in the TBL magazine. I brought in TBL designer Mick Lowe to work with us. It’s been very full on for the past three years. From about 2014 we began formulating the concept of the book. It took another couple of years to get something formally accepted. I approached one or two publishers and eventually Chris Charlesworth at Omnibus became interested. He had sent me many pages of an early format of what we would later develop into book form. Mike had been plugging away for some years on forming a definitive tour itinerary. GF: How long did the book take to compile?ĭL: We had the initial idea back in 2010. For fans who’d seen the band live it gives them the opportunity to relive it, and for fans who hadn’t seen them, the background text and countless visuals provide key insight into what the excitement was all about. Over the past decade-plus, the explosion of archival material, particularly newspaper archives, has provided much insight into the band’s performances across the globe. We had been collaborating for many years – in fact, Mike’s tour logs began to be a cornerstone of every TBL magazine from around 2007. Gary Foy: What was the original concept for the book?ĭave Lewis: It initially came out of an idea to funnel Mike’s amazing Led Zeppelin research in some way.
